Roll of honour international
Many would argue that international boxing started at the 1904 St Louis Olympics (USA), even though all the contestants were Americans! In 1908 however, the London Olympics (UK) witnessed a truly international event.
Building on the Olympic success the 'European Championships' were launched in 1924 (Paris, France) but the 'winner' was to be the highest placed European at the 1924 Paris Olympics! The second European Championships, and the first contested, were held in Stockholm (Sweden) in 1925.
The 'British Empire Games' began in Hamilton (Canada) in 1930 and today are referred to as the 'Commonwealth Games'.
The World Championships began in Havana (Cuba) in 1974 (although England did not lend a team).
Once again, the ABA of England, would like to formally recognise, and thank, all those boxers who have represented their Country at the (4) major international events of Olympics, World, European and Commonwealth Games.
